He’s in Nigeria but lives in Waco, TX. They won’t cash his traveler’s checks there. He needs some fast cash but doesn’t trust the banks there for a loan.
He was in the airport and they wouldn’t accept his travelers check. They told him he had to have a credit card or cash. He said he wasn’t able to cash travelers checks. He’s working with a bank now that was referred by the hotel manager. He w know something by Thursday. I won’t send him $. Just trying to figure other avenues for help.

You are being scammed if he says he can’t cash travelers checks in Nigeria. Most foreigners in Nigeria use travelers checks as they don’t want to carry cash with them. He can cash travellers checks at any Citibank branch, Thomas Cook offices, luxury hotels and some larger banks in Nigeria. Anyone saying they cannot cash travellers checks is scamming you, especially if this is somoene you only know online.
If he were really in serious financial trouble, he would just contact the US Embassy and apply for an emergency loan, using his travellers checks as collateral. The big banks in Nigeria are just as safe as in any other country. Banks like Standard Chartered, Citibank, Ecobank and United Bank for Africa are all major multinational banks that are as secure as any bank in the US or Europe.
Whatever you do, DO NOT send any money to this person

Posted by: | CommentsI have been researching these fast cash loans/payday loans, but I am still not sure if I want to trust them. They make it sound so easy to just get cash overnight! I need to get a loan for at least $1,500-$2,000 and I get paid every 2 weeks! You fill out the online app., which asks you, When is your next payday? Do you have direct deposit and things of that nature. You put your phone number so that a lender can call you and let you know if you will get the loan and discusses other things with you. sometimes you have to fax info that they ask for and with some you don’t!! What I need to know, is "Are these fast cash loans/payday loans/quick cash…etc" on the up and up??? Or is it just a scam??? I don’t wantto be screwed over, if you know what I mean!! Thanx!!
Lets face it, if you need to use a payday loan company, you need money fast, and dont have many other options. That means you are a risk, and that’s why they charge high interest rates. If you’re not that type, but just need quick cash, then fine, use a payday loan place, pay a few bucks for the convenience, and call it a day. They exist for a purpose. Fast, and easy cash. They take the risks, and they hold up their end of the bargain. If you do the same, you will be happy.

If I can borrow that much for a year, I can more or less live on the 5% interest I can get in some high interest savings accounts.
I know that’s only $25,000 in interest, but I’m a frugal guy and can make it on that.
0% cards don’t stay 0% forever. You will have to repay them.
Now if you can make 5% and pay it back before the rate goes back up, you may be on to something. But don’t expect to make more than a couple hundred dollars on this.

Sorry, but this is not even a realistic expectation in the current economy. Your chances of getting a loan for ANY reason without a credit check would be sub-zero unless the lender is a rich relative.

it just alarms me because identity theft is so rampant. my 5 year old never received a single piece of junk mail, other that children’s book clubs and such.
You might do some checking to make sure someone hasn’t stolen his identity. It isn’t unheard of for someone to get a hold of a social security number for an infant and set up credit in his name. This is usually a family member or friend. I saw a program on television about a young man who’s deadbeat dad had gotten credit in his name when he was a baby and now he isn’t able to get into college because he can’t get financial aid due to bad credit.
